Middle School: Grade 6 - 8

For Grade 6 – 8 children, we offer multi-grade educational experiences. We have developed courses that sometimes stretch over either two, or three grades. A multi-grade environment is special and very stimulating. Older kids have the opportunity to cement in concepts that might have been lost in earlier years, and gain self-confidence by helping younger ones. Younger children have the opportunity to see how complexity grows with increased proficiency.

Course descriptions:

Mathematics

Our aim is to engage with mathematics in a fun and creative way. As we learn together, you will learn to think critically and recognize that there is more than one way to solve a problem. At Green School we have a three-way approach to Mathematics – numbers, shapes, and relations. Our course is designed to enable you to build confidence in basic arithmetic, theoretical content, reasoning skills and problem solving. We hope that you fall in love with mathematics – because it is everywhere around us!

  • Fractions
  • Decimal fractions and percentages
  • Functions and relationships
  • 2D and 3D objects: area, perimeter, geometry
  • Numeric and geometric patterns
  • Functions and relationships
  • Algebraic expressions and equations
  • Graphs
  • Transformation geometry
  • Integers
  • Collect, organize and summarize data
  • Data handling
  • Probability

English

English is such an important subject because it teaches us to communicate in various ways, most of which we encounter in our daily lives. It also teaches us critical thinking, a skill that is very important in today’s society. I aim to use English to teach my students two main “umbrella” skills: firstly, to think critically about what they see and read every day, and secondly, to be effective communicators. These are both crucial skills for modern living. Explorers’ Club English will be integrating this knowledge and these skills into a different theme every two months.

In our course planning, we have incorporated the following four skills and learning areas:

  • Listening and speaking
  • Reading and viewing
  • Writing and presenting
  • Language structures and conventions.

Afrikaans
